Children develop their leadership skills by applying and serving on our Pupil Parliament. This enables them to make positive contributions to the school and share the children's voice with staff leaders and governors. It gives the children an experience of democracy and politics and enables them to instigate change or lead projects within their school. This also helps children to develop teamwork and confidence.
All children in Year 5 and Year 6 are given the opportunity to apply for all the minister roles within the Pupil Parliament. Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister candidates are asked to make a speech to the whole school, campaign for one week and followed by the whole school vote. Successful candidates work with SLT to appoint Ministers using their completed application forms.
All ministers stand for three terms, so that there are two terms of office in an academic year.
During the school's Quality Assurance Review (QAR) from Challenge Partners in 2024, it was noted that:
"Pupils make a highly positive contribution to the life of the school. All pupils in Years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to apply for all the minister roles within the pupil parliament. Prime ministers and deputy prime ministers are elected and other ministers are chosen based on the quality of their application. Members of the pupil parliament develop improvement projects to support the work of the school."
