National Curriculum in England
Aims
The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said: and helps engender an appreciation of fuman creativity and achievement.
The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyong the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils' knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum. Here at Rodborough Community Primary School we follow the National Curriculum and its aims but also make enhancements to ensure our children receive personalised education which reflects the community in which we live.
We love the subjects we lead!
Our subject leaders are passionate about the subjects they lead and promote them within the whole school community at every opportunity. They work hard to ensure the delivery of a high quality curriculum so that children know what they are learning, why they are learning it at that moment and how it fits into the wider curriculum and life outside school. We hope you enjoy reading their quotes below.
PSHEE
At Rodborough, PSHEE is at the heart of our school. Our curriculum, together with our Rodborough Values and Learning Powers, equips children with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives and thrive, now and in the future. Our lessons include, helping each child manage critical issues they face every day such as their emotional wellbeing, friendships and change. As the children progress through the school, our curriculum enables each child to grow up as healthy, confident and resilient individuals who are able to make informed, balanced and self-assured decisions about their lives.

RE
At Rodborough, we are accepting of other people’s beliefs and we respect others. Our RE curriculum supports children to apply these values to our community and beyond. Our RE lessons give children valuable insights into the diverse beliefs and opinions held by people today. RE supports each child’s personal development as well as helping them to understand and articulate the spiritual, moral, social and cultural questions that each child will encounter in their lives. By addressing difficult questions, children learn to challenge stereotypes, promote cohesion and value tolerance and understanding whilst developing their own wellbeing and personal identity.
