Science
Science at Rodborough inspires children to be curious, ask questions and explore the world around them. Through practical investigations and first-hand experiences, pupils develop an understanding of scientific concepts whilst learning how scientists observe, test, predict, draw conclusions and evaluate.
From their first experiences in the Early Years and Key Stage 1, children are encouraged to notice changes, ask questions and explore through investigation. They learn that science is not simply learning facts; it is about discovering answers and making sense of the world through evidence.
As their knowledge grows, pupils are introduced to increasingly complex scientific ideas across biology, chemistry and physics. They investigate, compare, classify, measure and record findings, using scientific vocabulary to explain their thinking and justify their conclusions.
Practical enquiry sits at the heart of our science curriculum. Children are given opportunities to explore their own questions, work collaboratively, think critically and develop resilience when investigations do not go as expected. Through these experiences, they gain the confidence to think independently and communicate their understanding effectively.
By the time they leave Rodborough, pupils have developed the knowledge, skills and curiosity needed to continue their scientific learning. They understand the importance of science in everyday life and are equipped to view the world with wonder, curiosity and a questioning mind.
