Mathematics
Mathematics at our school is an exciting, ambitious journey in which every child grows into a confident, capable mathematician. Mathematics is far more than numbers on a page—it is a way of thinking, exploring and making sense of the world. At Rodborough, children develop strong fluency in key number facts and methods, giving them the solid foundations they need to tackle new ideas with ease.
A core part of our approach is nurturing children’s reasoning skills. Pupils learn to explain their thinking clearly, justify their choices and use logic to explore patterns, relationships and mathematical structures. They are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions and discuss different strategies, helping them become thoughtful and reflective learners.
When problem solving, children engage in rich, meaningful challenges that promote resilience, creativity and persistence. They learn that there may be more than one way to reach a solution and that mistakes are valuable opportunities for deeper understanding.
By moving steadily through this journey of fluency, reasoning and problem solving, our pupils develop the confidence to think mathematically in all areas of life. We aim to ensure every child leaves our school seeing themselves as a successful and enthusiastic mathematician.
In mathematics we learn together and achieve together to be the best we can be.
