Geography

Geography at our school is a rich, exploratory journey that helps children make sense of the world around them—locally, nationally and globally. From the earliest years, pupils develop a fascination with people, places and environments, building the knowledge and curiosity that underpin confident geographical thinking.

In Key Stage 1, children begin by exploring their immediate surroundings. They learn to use simple maps, identify physical and human features, and compare different places. Through hands‑on fieldwork, they start to ask thoughtful questions about how environments are shaped and how people interact with them.

As pupils move into Key Stage 2, their understanding deepens. They study diverse regions of the UK and the wider world, investigating climate, land use, natural resources and global connections. They learn to read and interpret more complex maps, apply geographical vocabulary with accuracy, and use evidence to form reasoned explanations.

Across the Primary Knowledge Curriculum, children develop strong disciplinary skills—observing, analysing, interpreting and drawing conclusions. They learn to think logically about patterns and processes, and to approach geographical enquiry with curiosity and care.

Throughout their time with us, pupils journey towards becoming confident young geographers who can question, understand and appreciate the dynamic world they live in.

In geography, we learn together and achieve together to be the best we can be.
