English
Our curriculum for English is broken down into three parts: Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening. Each area has a clear progression of skills, knowledge and exciting opportunities for children to be immersed in high quality texts, spoken language and engaging learning. Having taken part in The Write Journey, supported by the EEF, we model, scaffold and deconstruct writing based on the children’s prior knowledge and adapt it to meet the needs of all children. We set high expectations of English across the curriculum and children enjoy using working walls and seeing their learning up on display.
Starting from their first week in Reception, children learn to read following the Read Write Inc programme. This continues throughout KS1, following a systematic approach for decoding and learning to spell.
