Design and Technology
Design and Technology at our school is an exciting and creative subject that encourages children to become imaginative, resourceful and reflective learners. Through designing, making and evaluating, pupils learn how ideas can be transformed into purposeful products that meet real needs and solve problems.
In Key Stage 1, children begin by exploring a variety of products and the ways they are designed and made. They develop practical skills using a range of materials, tools and techniques, while learning to communicate their ideas through drawing, modelling and discussion. Through hands-on experiences, they begin to understand the relationship between design and function.
As pupils move into Key Stage 2, they build upon these foundations by tackling increasingly complex design challenges. They learn to research, plan and create products with a particular purpose in mind, carefully considering the needs of the user. Through projects involving structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food technology, pupils develop technical knowledge alongside their creativity and problem-solving skills.
Throughout their time with us, pupils grow into confident designers and makers who can apply their knowledge, skills and creativity to a wide range of situations. They leave primary school with a strong understanding of the role Design and Technology plays in shaping the world around them and the confidence to innovate and create.
