Art and Design
At Rodborough Community Primary School, Art and Design is a vibrant, knowledge-rich journey where every child is empowered to see themselves as an artist. Through our carefully sequenced Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC), pupils build a deep understanding of great artists, architects and designers, while exploring the key elements of art such as colour, line, shape and texture. Children don’t just create - they think and make meaningful connections between the art they study and the work they produce. From early explorations of colour and sculpture in Key Stage 1 to studying the Renaissance, Impressionism and global artistic traditions in Key Stage 2, pupils develop both confidence and creativity.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure clear progression in skills such as drawing, painting, printmaking and textiles, while also nurturing critical thinking and reflection through sketchbooks. By revisiting and building on prior knowledge, children learn to analyse, evaluate and refine their ideas, developing independence and a genuine love of art. We celebrate diversity, creativity and self-expression, ensuring every child leaves with the skills, knowledge and inspiration to appreciate and create art that reflects both the world around them and their own unique voice.
